TRACY McDOWELL 1960 - 2006
My mother, Tracy McDowell was an amazing person. She gave up everything for our family and especially me.
As you could imagine, growing up we raced a lot, which meant all of the funds for vacations, new cars, new houses, all went to our racing program. My mother loved her family and loved racing. She was the all-around race mom.
She passed away after a valiant, year long battle with cancer.
My Mom was a huge part of my life, my career, and I will miss her dearly. She was full of life and was adored by everyone she came in contact with. I wanted to dedicate a page to her on my website so that she will always be with me. This is something that was really cool that Mark wrote for the service.
=============== If being a mother is a difficult job, being a race mom is an impossible one. I can only imagine the ad Tracy had to have answered for this position. I'd assume it would have read something like this:
*** Wanted Racing Mom
Description:
Challenging permanent work in a completely chaotic environment. Candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be willing to work variable hours, which will include all evenings, all weekends and many 24 hour shifts. Overnight travel is required, including trips to go kart tracks in the middle of nowhere on rainy weekends, and endless races in far away cities. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
Must have the ability to plan and organize 3 men who all want to be in charge. Must not be afraid to ask for directions or at the very least carry a map. Must always hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Applicant can not be afraid of trips to the hospital. Applicant also must assume final accountability for all results. I'm not sure most of us would be ready to apply for such a position, but Tracy was. And if there was an awards banquet for racing moms I'm sure she would be at the top of the list
