MOORESVILLE, NC (May 30, 2006) - Finlay Motorsports announced earlier today that
Memo Gidley will return to the cockpit of the popular No.19 Playboy/Uniden/Palms/Vonage
Ford-powered Crawford Daytona Prototype machine for this weekend's running of
the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen. Gidley, who suffered a compression fracture to
his back while practicing for the Rolex Series event in Long Beach earlier this season,
was expected to be out for a minimum of three months but was reevaluated last week
in Indianapolis by Doctor Terry Trammell and cleared to drive.
"Waiting to hear the results of the CT scan was more painful than the wreck,"
stated Memo Gidley. "I've been going through a pretty extensive work out routine
the last several weeks and I think even Dr. Trammell was surprised at the results.
When other people might look at something like this as a set-back, I looked at it
as a challenge. In my mind this was no different than trying to find the last
two tenths of a second needed to be on the pole. If you can see the goal and work
hard you can achieve it. The team has done an awesome job the last few races to keep
us in the hunt for the championship and I'm thrilled to be getting back into the
thick of things this weekend. I also want to thank Guy Cosmo for filling in for me
behind the wheel, he did a great job and I really appreciate his efforts." |
The Mooresville, NC- based team currently
sit second in the Rolex Series team point standings and hope to retake the lead after
this weekend's event.
"I am really excited about the Glen," said Michael McDowell. "We
have always had a fast car there and I'm sure our Ford Crawford will prove to be
just as quick. The six hour is awesome there's a lot of racing and it tends to be
very physical, more like a six hour sprint race. It will be great to have Memo back
in the car so we can continue racking up points and hopefully score a win at the
Glen."
Practice for this weekend's Sahlen's Six hours of the Glen begins on Thursday, June
1st at 3:00 p.m. with qualifying scheduled to take place on Friday at 4:45 p.m. The
six-hour time limit race will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be televised live on the
Speed Channel. |
