MONTEREY, CA (May 7, 2006) - Six races into the Rolex Series season, Michael
McDowell and Guy Cosmo, who has been filling in for the injured Memo Gidley proved
that consistency does pay off. McDowell scored a fourth place finish in Saturday's
qualifying race, allowing for his teammate Guy Cosmo to start the U.S. Sports Car
Invitational from the second row.
Cosmo managed to avoid contact at the start of the race but unfortunately lost a
few positions. He quickly settled into the race pace and was able to bring the No.19
Playboy/Uniden/Palms - sponsored machine into the pits in good shape.
"I had a real good run working my way through the field and was able to gain
several positions," said Cosmo. "The team decided on an early pit stop
strategy and it really worked in our favor. We gained several track positions during
our stop and I was able to hand the car over to Michael without a scratch. The team
had a great stop and had him right back out there with the leaders." |
McDowell continued to make his way up through
traffic, driving a smart race and gave the Mooresville, NC ñ based team their second
fourth place finish of the weekend.
"It was a great point's race for us," said McDowell. "We got shuffled
back at the start but Cosmo kept out of trouble and gave me the car in a good position.
I was starting to make my way up a bit but was pushed off into the gravel in the
corkscrew and fell back to eighth. I managed to work my way back into fourth, keeping
the points as my number one goal."
The team will next compete at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday, May 13. |
