McDOWELL TO TRADE MOTOR OIL FOR OLIVE OIL IN ROOKIE COOK-OFF EVENT

Las Vegas Boys & Girls Clubs kids to judge “Cooking for Rookies” competition

espn zoneLAS VEGAS, Feb. 19, 2008 – Michael McDowell and two other Raybestos® Rookie drivers from the NASCAR Sprint and NASCAR Nationwide Series will speed into ESPN Zone Thursday, February 28 at 2 p.m. for the “ESPN Zone Cooking for Rookies” competition.

Raybestos drivers Cale Gale, Landon Cassill, and Michael McDowell will learn cooking tricks of the trade from ESPN Zone Executive Chef Tom Keaveny. The event is free and open to the public.

“Many young pro athletes are out on their own for the first time and need to learn the basics in the kitchen,” said Robert Birrell, ESPN Zone’s general manager. “This event will teach Cale, Landon, and Michael valuable skills in the kitchen they will have long after they’re done trading paint on the track.”

ESPN Zone’s Cooking for Rookies event is an “Iron Chef”-style competition featuring healthy cooking tips and recipes along with friendly competition. The hour-long session starts with an overview of cooking basics followed by the drivers individually preparing dishes, then a round of judging to see which driver best circled the culinary track.

The judges will be a group of youth from the Las Vegas Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The kids will judge the dishes on overall taste and presentation.

Following the competition, the drivers will join the kids in ESPN Zone’s Sports Arena to enjoy fun and games, including the once-in-a-lifetime thrill for kids who get to race on the NASCAR Daytona simulator games against a real racing pro.

ESPN Zone chefs have conducted similar classes for many professional teams, including the NFL’s New York Giants and Chicago Bear, the NBA’s Washington Wizards, and MLB’s Colorado Rockies.
